The jury’s still out on Do Not Open This Book! I guess it was too much like There’s A Monster At The End Of This Book to me. The idea is that the book hasn’t been written yet, and so the pig is discouraging the reader from turning the pages. Toward the end, there’s a mad-lib style section where you insert your name on the blank lines… and it refers to the reader as a “pest” and just is rather negative in tone… I know it was intended to be funny, but I didn’t like it–and I didn’t like having to explain to my 5-year-old what a pest is. For now I think we’ll stick with the Sesame Street version. It was a lot funnier.
